Left union strike evokes good response
Bangalore, Aug 20: The Left parties' backed nationwide general strike to protest the Union government's 'anti-people' economic policies evoked a good response in many parts of Karnataka on Wednesday, Aug 20.
The strike hit the industrial belts in districts like Bangalore urban, rural, Kolar, Mangalore, Gulbarga, Bidar and Belgaum, while it was partial elsewhere.
Factories, BSNL and LIC establishments were closed down in most parts of the state as workers abstained from their duties and came out on the streets to protest.
Bus services, however, were not affected in major cities like Bangalore,Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum and Shimoga, while it was affected in Dakshina Kannada and Kolar.
However, the strike was partial in public-sector banks as most of the branches functioned with thin attendance.
Stone-throwing incidents were reported from some places, where workers forced closure of business establishment and stopped bus services.
Bus service was hit in Mangalore,Udupi and in some places in Kolar.
Flight operations were not affected throughout the State.
