Kanwar demands closure of illegal liquor shops
Korba, Chhattisgarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Ruling BJP legislator and former minister Nankiram Kanwar today demanded shutting down of hundreds of illegal liquor shops in rural and urban areas of this district.
Mr Kanwar told UNI here that sale of illegal liquor was destroying villages.
''Village women have come up against destruction being caused by the sale of illegal liquor. However, their campaign is not achieving complete success due to inadequate support by excise and police officials and attack by goons of liquor contractors,'' he said.
Mr Kanwar said he had written a letter to Collector Ashok Agrawal providing details of number of liquor shops in rural and urban areas. Copies of the complaint had been sent to the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Home Minister, the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police.
He alleged police and excise department had a nexus with liquor contractors.
