Siwan, Aug 20 (UNI) The Bihar government has suspended the Jailor, Assistant Jailor and 26 other officers of the Siwan jail following the recent recovery of banned items in huge quantity from the cell of incarcerated RJD MP Md Shahabuddin.
Official sources said here today that IG (Prison) Sandeep Paundrik suspended 26 officials, including Jailor Ramadhar Singh, asistant jailor Rajendra Prasad, four senior wardens and 22 other wardens, for dereliction of duties.
All the suspended officers had been charged with deliberately ignoring the movement of the banned items in different cells of the jail.
Meanwhile, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Badur Ahmad and Executive Magistrate Baleshwar Prasad replied to the showcause notices served to them separately for issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Md Shahabuddin on the plea of not finding any objectionable items from his cell number 18 at the time of raid conducted recently inside the jail.
Jail Superintendent L K Sinha also explained his position following the showcause notice served to him after the raid, asking him to explain under what circumstances the banned items were taken inside the jail.
Earlier, on August 3, District Magistrate Vandana Preyasi and Superintendent of Police Umesh Kumar had raided the jail and seized 37 cell phones, 10 SIM cards, mobile batteries, perfumes, sharp-edged weapons and a hunter.
The sources said after issuance of the NOC to Md Shahabuddin, seven mobile phones and some battery chargers were recovered when his ward was raided again under the supervision of the DM and SP, following which, the showcause notices were served.
The sources further said action against the Jail Superintendent, SDM and the Executive Magistrate was pending.
