Pune, Aug 20 (UNI) Social activist and former MLA Bhai Vaidya today urged the Central and Maharashtra governments to provide financial aid to all educational institutes, from nursery to higher education, with a view to raise the literacy percentage throughout the country.
While outlining the plan of his newly formed 'Akhil Bharatiya Samajwadi Adhyapak Sabha' (All India Socialist Teachers Association) here, the former city Mayor told reporters the association will make concerted efforts to strengthen the base of education in the country.
For this, he will undertake a tour of 34 districts of the state to spread awareness about basic education.
Citing an example of advanced countries where the emphasis is always on provision of basic education, Mr Vaidya appealed all to participate in the campaign and strive single-mindedly for equal, qualitative and free education to all from kinder garten to post graduation.
He appealed to educational institutes, self-help groups, students' unions, workers' unions and gram panchyats to write a letter to the President informing her about the need for making education free in the country.
The 37-day tour will start from September 16 and will end on October 24 in Mumbai, he added.
