Flood situation in Punjab under control
Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) The flood situation around the areas near Satluj and Beas rivers in Punjab remained under control with water level receding in both Bhakra and Pong dams.
According to Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), water level in both the dams have decreased due to less rainfall in Himachal Pradesh in last 24 hours. Due to fall in the water level, there was no need to release water from these dams.
The water level in the Bhakra was today recorded at 1671.63 ft and Pong recorded 1381.42 ft water level.
However, despite a fall in the water level of Sutlej, Beas and Ravi, the vigil along these rivers continued, with Army personnel making all efforts to plug the breaches in the 'dhussi bundh' of the Sutlej in Moga, Jalandhar and Ferozpur districts.
Erection of ring bandh with sand bags was going on wa footing.
In Sultanpurlodhi, around 34 villages and in Tarn Taran around 15 to 20 villages were still flooded with water and large tracts of agricultural land remained submerged. The situation in villages around Shahkot Lohia has also not improved much and the relief operation is going on in these areas.
