Dr Uday Bodhankar is Secretary General of Commonwealth body
Nagpur, Aug 20 (UNI) In a rare honour for the country, noted paediatrician Uday Bodhankar of the city has been elected as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association for Mental Handicap and Developmental Disability (CAMHADD).
Dr Bodhankar was elected to the post during an international CAMHADD conference held in Puducherry last week, National Neonatology Forum Maharashtra chapter President Yashwant Patil told UNI.
Established in the United Kingdom (UK) in 1983, CAMHADD is a partner of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in several areas, including mental health, disability prevention, maternal and newborn health, reproductive health, prevention of injuries and prevention of childhood blindness, Dr Patil said.
Headquartered in London, the organisation works with support from the Commonwealth Foundation, and its priority programmes include prevention of brain damage due to birth asphyxia, prevention of mental, neurological and sensory handicaps and development of professional links between developed and developing countries, he added.
