Chennai, Aug 20 (UNI) Scores of Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers and trade union activists affiliated to the CITU and AITUC were arrested following sporadic incidents and for staging rail roko agitations in various parts of Tamil Nadu as part of their natonwide stir against the 'anti-people' policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre.
The activists blocked trains at five places in Tiruvarur district and also detained the Brindavan Express at Ambur in Vellore district.
Reports received here said about 150 CPI(M) workers led by party MLA Ulaganathan courted arrest when they staged rail roko agitation at five places in Tiruvarur.
A report from Vellore said 65 AITUC activists were arrested when they blocked the Brindavan Express at Ambur station, while Vellore district CITU functionary was arrested for damaging the windscreens of an autorickshaw.
At Madurai, a CPI(M) worker, working as an auto driver, was arrested for damaging the windscreens of a State Transport Corporation Bus.
Reports of rail roko agitations and CPI(M) workers courting arrests were also received from various districts, including Dharmapuri.
