Chandigarh to observe Aug 23 as cycle rally day
Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Chandigarh Tourism has decided to observe every third Saturday of the month of August as Chandigarh Cycle Rally day, to promote cycling as a healthy and pollution-free environment activity.
Cycle tourism is being adopted so that people from outside can also enjoy cycling in the City Beautiful and visit its tourist spots at their own pace, a tourism department spokesman said here.
Chandigarh Tourism has adopted "Culture of cycling" as the latest form of 'tourism' in the city which has cycle tracks alongside most of the tree-lined wide roads having comparatively less traffic.
To commemorate this day, a 3 km long Cycle rally has been planned tomorrow, in which about 500 cyclists from various organisations including Chandigarh Tourism, STEPS, CITCO, DELL, INFOSYS, Yuvsatta, INTACH, British Library, Punjab University, SBI and Punjab Engineering College would participate.
The cycle rally will start off from the Open Hand Monument, near High Court at 0700 hrs and culminate at Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12.
