Bank, transport services affected adversely in Rajasthan
Jaipur, Aug 20 (UNI) The nationwide general strike, called by the Left parties to protest the Centre's anti-people economic policies, evoked a good response in Rajasthan affecting adversely transport services and functioning in banks and the insurance sector.
Working in most branches of banks, including the Reserve Bank of India Jaipur, remained disrupted.
About 1.25 lakh cheques amounting in total Rs 800 crore remained uncleared following the suspension of work in the clearing house, a striking employee said.
However, union of employees in the State Bank of India and its seven subsidiaries didnot participate in the strike.
Truckers, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) employees and petrol pump owners also joined the strike affecting the transport service.
The agitators stalled bus services at the Central Bus Terminal at the Sindhi Camp here for about three hours.
