Bandh against UPA Govt evokes lukewarm response in Goa
Panaji, Aug 20 (UNI) A day-long general strike called by the Sponsoring Committee of central unions and mass organisations to protest ''anti-people'' and ''anti-labour policies'' of the UPA Government at the Centre evoked lukewarm response in Goa today.
The state government was assessing the situation after the employees threatened to join the strike by observing mass casual leave, according to chief secretary J P Singh.
Private buses and state-run Kadamba Transport Corporation bus services were normal. The ferry services were, however, hit.
Barring the State Bank of India, Baroda Bank and Indian Overseas Banks, all other nationalised banks struck work.
The government employees and different unions, including AITUC, have planned to organise a rally this afternoon from KTC bus terminus.
