Bhubaneswar, Aug 20 (UNI) As many as 1,160 Small Scale Industrial units have been found lying defunct during the last five years in Orissa, state Industries Minister B B Harichandan told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of MLA Bimbadhar Kuanr (BJP), the minister said not even a single industrial unit among these industries could be revived as there was no provision for reviving the fully defunct units in the present industrial policy.

However, 56 of the 163 sick Small Scale Industrial units had been revived by extending various types of assistance to them, he said.

The Minister said during 2000-2008 as many as 34,597 small scale units were established in the state.

Replying to another question of MLA Bikarm Keshari Bumra (BJD), the Minister said three committees - a District Level Committee and two State Level Inter Institutional Committees - had been formed for the revival of the sick small and medium industrial units.

The sick industrial units would be accorded the status of new industries as per the IPR-2007 on the recommendation of the committee, Mr Harichandan said, adding that incentives and assistance would be extended for their revival.
