Bhubaneswar, Aug 19 (UNI) The Vedant University proposed by the Anil Agarwal Foundation will soon start construction of a 500-bed super specialty hospital and medical college of international standard.
The project to be expanded to 1000-bed hospital in the next phase, would have super specialisation in cardiology, endocrinology and acute care.
Subsequently, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology would be added to meet the long standing need for providing comprehensive and specialized patient care and health services to the population of the region.
Anil Agarwal Foundation sources said the Hospital, designed in line with the highest standards set for the Vedanta University Project, would be a Research cum Teaching hospital besides providing highest quality patient care.
An advisory committee, comprising distinguished medical professionals and academicians from India and abroad, would be soon constituted to chalk out the vision and scope of the medical center consisting of hospital, teaching and research facilities.
Meanwhile, noted Cardiologist Dr. K P Mishra and former Director of Institute of Immunohaematology (ICMR)Dr Dipika Mohanty, also the winner of the Biju Patnaik award for Excellence in Science and Technology, have joined as Advisors to guide the setting up of the hospital, medical college and medical research centers.
The Hospital and Medical College would form part of the first phase of Vedanta University Project which would include a core campus with colleges for Humanities and Sciences, and schools of Engineering and Business. The first academic session is all set to commence from 2010.
The Anil Agarwal foundation had already signed a MoU with the Orissa government to establish a world class multidisciplinary Vedant University, spread over 6000 acres of land on the Puri-Konark marine drive.
The Orissa cabinet has also decided to bring a bill in the monsoon session of the state Assembly, beginning here from tomorrow to facilitate the setting up of the University.
