BSE Sensex opens low at 14,517 points

{image-Bombay Stock Exchange_19082008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Mumbai, Aug 19: The key benchmark Sensitive index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday, Aug 19 opened low at 14,517.76 points, with a massive loss of 127.90, from its last finish on profit-booking at higher level by local operators.

Later, the key benchmark indices were weak in mid-morning trade. Fear of more losses from the US mortgage crisis globally weighed on the sentiment. Auto and banking stocks declined. Metal stocks were mixed. Maruti Suzuki India fell more than 3.5 per cent. The BSE 30-share Sensex was down 113.32 points, or 0.77 pc, to 14,532.34 from its last close of 14,645.66. It recorded the day's low of 14,481.13 and high of 14,584.23.

The S &P CNX Nifty index of National Stock Exchange (NSE) was down 27.40 points, or 0.62 pc, to 4,365.65 points at the current level from its last close of 4,393.05. The index resumed flat at 4,393.10. Later, it recorded the day's high and low at 4,393.70 and 4,344.00 points respectively during the mid-session. The BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.56 pc to 5,749.64 and the BSE Small-Cap index was down 0.42 pc at 7,007.20.

Banking stocks fell. Axis Bank was down 1.51 pc to Rs 681.95 followed by State Bank of India by 0.9 pc to Rs 1,443.90, HDFC Bank by 0.79 pc to Rs 1,191.90 and ICICI Bank by 0.31 pc to Rs 662.95. Autoline Industries was also down 0.11 pc to Rs 175.50, Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation eased 2.17 pc to Rs 349.75 and Dwarikesh Sugar came down 1.39 pc to Rs 88.90, brokers added.
