RPI acitivists attack Colors channel office; eleven held
Mumbai, Aug 19 (UNI) At least 11 activists of Republican Party of India (RPI-Athavale) were detained by police for allegedly pelting stones at the office of 'Colors' channel at Andheri in North West Mumbai today.
Police confirmed that 11 activists, belonging to RPI-A faction, were detained for allegedly attacking the channel's office situated at Nagardas Road in Andheri this afternoon. They were angry for not featuring the party president and MP Ramdas Athavale in the reality show 'Bigg Boss'.
RPI's North-West Mumbai unit president Vivek Pawar admitted that party workers were furious over non-inclusion of the party president in the show.
Mr Athavale had yesterday threatened to sue the channel over the issue. He had told the mediapersons that the channel had approached and asked him whether he was willing to take part in 'Bigg Boss'. He had given his consent and had cancelled all his assignments to take part in the show. But they did not bother to contact him again to take him to Lonavala for participation in the show.
He alleged that the channel 'betrayed' him and appealed to his followers to boycott the show. The channel started the telecast of the show from August 17.
