New Delhi, Aug 19: Three days ahead of Apple launching its iconic iPhone in the country, country's largest mobile phone maker Nokia on Tuesday, Aug 19 unveiled its new converged device N96 from its 'N Series' range. Nokia is quiet confident that the company's sales would not be impacted by the launch of the iPhone in the country, but many feel Nokia is hurrying the launch of N96 in India to counter the hype associated with iPhone.
''Our sales will not be affected by the launch of iPhone in the country...There are different segments of consumers whose needs are different,'' Nokia India Director (Marketing) Devinder Kishore told media here. He, however, refused to divulge the price of the handset. With a large 2.8-inch screen display, the phone packs 16 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 24GB. ''Consumers can pre-book the phone from across 2,000 Nokia outlets across the country from tomorrow,'' he added.
Nokia seems to have seen a good market prospect in the converged devices segment and expects about 180 million users by the end of the year from 120 million users last year. The company sold 15.3 million units globally of converged devices in the second quarter this fiscal.
N96 is also being launched in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin American countries.
Asked about the impact of 3G services roll out, Mr Kishore said, ''this will help the sales of 3G devices in the country and will help the consumers get the best of services as well.'' Nokia has a 52.9 per cent market share in the country.
