Puducherry, Aug 19 (UNI) Small industries associations in the Union Territory has urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to stop power cut for saving the industries.

Stating that 50 small industrial units have closed down due to power cuts, Puducherry Chamber of Industries President Kanagasabapathy, addressing a press conference here today said since June, the small and micro industrial units in Mettuppalayam and Saidarapet industrial estates were badly hit by the power cut running to 52 hours a week.

He said even after the office-bearers of the associations met Governor, Chief Minister and Union Power Minister besides officials and sought to initiate steps to correct the situation, nothing had materialised so far.

If the present situation continued for another two months, most of the small and micro industrial units in the two estates would be shut down, he added.

Alleging lack of proper planning, he said the administration should take steps to get the required power needed from the central grid to tide over the situation.

Puducherry Industries Association President Tirupathi, Association of Small Industries of the Union Territory of Puducherry(ASUTOP) President K Parthasarathy and All India Plastic Traders and Manaufactuerers Association President Rajaganapathy, were present at the press conference.
