Congress-SP Coordination panel to be set up soon
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) The Congress Party, which is heading the ruling UPA coalition, has reportedly cleared a proposal to constitute a coordination panel with the Samajwadi Party, whose crucial support helped the Manmohan Singh government win the July 22 trust vote, necessitated by the withdrawal of support by the Left Parties.
The proposed Congress-SP Coordination panel would have six members, four from the Congress and the two from the SP, a top AICC functionary said here today.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister A K Antony would represent the Congress, while the SP nominees would be Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mr Amar Singh.
The panel would help to ensure smooth coordination between the Congress and the SP, which are likely to forge an alliance in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
