CB-CID to probe 'mysterious death' of girl student in hostel
Chennai, Aug 19 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today ordered a CB-CID probe into the ''mysterious death'' of a girl student of Indira Gandhi Arts and Science college for women in Tiruchirapalli.
State Director General of Police(DGP) ordered the transfer of the case, pending before the Kottai All Women police station to the CB-CID for detailed investigation as the father of the girl, lodged a complaint alleging that it was not a case of suicide and his daughter was subjected to sexual abuse.
Prasanya, daughter of one Arunachalam, hailing from Cuddalore district, was studying BCA first year in the college. She had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel room on August six.
Two days ago, Communist Party of India (Marxist) state unit Secretary N Varadarajan, in a letter, urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to order a CB-CID inquiry into the ''mysterious death''.
The CPI(M) leader quoted Mr Arunachalam as having said when he had entrusted his daughter to the care of the hostel warden on August 6, she was in a good mood and there was no way she could have committed suicide.
He alleged that the girl's undergarments were found torn and she had nail marks on the neck and chest areas. He suspected she could have been subjected to sexual abuse.
