Anju crashes out, creates 'foul' record

By Staff
Beijing, Aug 19: Indian athletes continue to cut sorry figure in the Olympics as Anju Bobby George too could not lift the gloom and failed to qualify for the women's long jump event on Tuesday, Aug 19.

All three attempts by Anju in the qualifying heats were fouls. Anju marked her presence at the international arena after winning the bronze medal at the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris. She jumped 6.83m in Athens but then after her 6.75 m in Monaco she has fallen behind and is ranked 16th in the world. Anju's best this season has been 6.55 metres in three different meets, and her last major success came three years ago when she won the silver in the World athletics final with a jump of 6.75m.
