Punjab Chief Secretary discusses land availability
Chandigarh, Aug 18 (UNI) A high level meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary R I Singh was held here today to address land availability issues for the IT/ITeS industry in Punjab.
The meeting, attended by several senior level officers, was aimed at exploring the feasibility of various identified land options.
A brief presentation by Ernst and Young was followed by a discussion on the merits and demerits of each option to shortlist the highest potential land pockets. The officials were of the view that Punjab Infotech, the nodal agency for IT investment promotion in the State, should prioritise projects in areas such as Mohali, Ropar, Kapurthala and Patiala.
About 50 acres of land has already been earmarked by the Government for transfer to Punjab Infotech for developing an IT Park at Kapurthala. Land adjoining the proposed IIT at Ropar was also discussed.
The focus of the Government is to clearly identify promising land parcels which strategically located. The Government is keen to have an inventory of attractive land parcels before it approaches IT companies to do business in the state.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of proposed SEZ projects with private promoters. The Government invited feedback from promoters for necessary corrective action and assured the administration's support for putting these projects on the fast track.
