Police fire several rounds to quell rioters in city
Ahmedabad, Aug 18 (UNI) At least 20 people were injured when police fired several rounds to disperse two clashing groups in the sensitive Delhi Chakla locality of Shahpur area of the walled city here this afternoon.
Police sources said today's trouble was a fall-out of last night's clashes, between the two groups of different communities, which arose after a minor accident between two vehicles.
Earlier, police resorted to lathi-charge and lobbed 30 rounds of teargas to quell the rioters indulging in stone pelting. As the trouble spread, police fired several rounds.
A police officer was injured in the stone-pelting, police sources said.
Though the situation was tense, it has been brought under control by the police. Patrolling was intensified in Shahpur and other sensitive areas of the walled city, police sources added.
