Bhubaneswar, Aug 18 (UNI) Orissa Police submitted chargesheets against gangster Raja Acharya and his accomplice Akshaya Behera in the murder case of marathon kid Budhia Singh's coach Biranchi Das.
Official sources here today said the Baragarh police filed the chargesheets before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate's court yesterday, naming Raja Acharaya and his associate Chagla as the accused in the coach murder case, and framed them under section 302, 102 (B) and 34 of the Arms Act.
Police, however, are yet to recover the weapon used in the crime.
Raja Acharaya, who was initially lodged in the special jail here, was later shifted to Bolangir jail on security grounds.
President of the Orissa Judo Association Biranchi Das was shot dead near the Judo Association hall here on April 13 by two assailants, who fled the scene after committing the crime.
After a manhunt and conducting a series of raids at various places both inside and outside the state, Askhaya alias Chagala, who surrendered before the Bhopal police, confessed to the crime and named gangster Raja Acharaya as the prime accused in the murder case.
Later, in May, Raja Acharaya, who had gone underground since the murder of the judo coach, surrendered before the police in Goa.
However, during the interrogation, he refused to confess about his involvement in the crime.
The police claimed that they had sufficient evidences to prove the involvement of Raja in the Biranchi Das murder case.
Police also recorded the conversation of Raja Acharaya with album artist Bidusmita, in which the gangster had hinted that he would kill Biranchi Das, who had become a hindrance in his love affair with another album artist Leslie Tripathy.
