Vijayawada, Aug 18 (UNI) Police have claimed a breakthrough in the seven-month-old murder case of pharmacy student Ayesha at a ladies hostel in Ibrahimpatnam, near here, with the arrest of an ex-convict.
Addressing the press here last evening, Eluru Range DIG Hasan Raja and SP D Ramakrishnayya said Pidatala Satyam Babu had confessed to rape and murder of Ayesha.
Mr Raja said on the intervening night of December 26 and 27, Babu saw Ayesha on the balcony while returning home.
He entered the hostel after jumping the compound wall. After finding out Ayesha's room, he brought a pestle from the house next door and hit the girl on the head when she was sleeping.
Later, Babu dragged her into the bathroom and raped her. After the gruesome act, he wrote a 'love letter' in a fictitious name to mislead the police.
He again raped her and after writing a few words on her chest, he fled.
However, the DIG said DNA and other tests would be conducted soon to verify his claims.
