Heavy rain damages over 1,000 houses; rescue work on: UP govt
Lucknow, Aug 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today said as many as 1,045 houses were damaged and about 1,500 people affected due to incessant rainfall that was recorded at 35 cm in the state overnight.
Giving these figures, UP rescue commissioner said that all in all 24 houses were completely damaged due to the heavy rains. The estimated loss comes around Rs 73 lakh.
Besides, 12 cattle have died.
A total of 73 boats have been pressed in service for rescue and relief operations.
About 28,804 quintal rice, 112 quintal wheat, 1,606 quintal salt and around 3.80 lakh litre oil have been distributed in the flood-affected areas, the officer informed.
The official said the rescue work was underway in full-swing in the deluge-hit areas.
