PMK to organise seminar on farmers issues
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 17 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder President S Ramadoss today said the party's agriculture wing 'Tamil Nadu Ulavar Periyakkam' would organise a two-day state level seminar in Chennai to discuss various issues of farmers.
Addressing the party's farmers wing meeting here, he said ahead of the seminar, a statewide demonstration would be held to draw the attention of the Central and state government on the farmers long pending demands.
Even after this, if the governments did not look in to the farmers issues, the party would launch a statewide stir, he added.
Appealing to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to meet representatives of farmers at least twice a month to redress their grievances, he said he had already urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to send Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to every state to meet farmers representatives to resolve their problems.
Referring to the DMK government's liquor policy, Dr Ramadoss urged the Chief Minister to close down Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shops immediately to save the new generation from the evils of liquor addiction.
