Islamabad, Aug.17 : Security forces in Pakistan are continuing with their intense shelling of militant hideouts in the country's remote tribal areas.
Reports from the Bajaur Tribal Agency said that shelling was taking place in Khar, Charmang, Mamoond and Slarzai areas.
The Daily Times quoted sources as saying that the security forces had killed three more militants. There were also unconfirmed television reports of American warplanes targeting areas inside Pakistan and of shells being fired from the Afghan side of border.
Reports from Mingora quoted officials as saying that clashes had also taken place between security forces and militants on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of nine persons, including eight militants in the Swat region.
The clashes were reported to have taken place in the Kanjoo, Dherai, Imam Dheri and Kooza Bandai areas, the paper reported.
Eight militants were also arrested 27 kilometres east of Mingora.
Nearly 160 people have been killed in the renewed fighting in Swat, which erupted into violence in November last year when militants led by a Mullah Fazlullah launched a campaign to enforce Taliban-style rule.
