Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 17 (UNI) An attempt was made to loot more than three dozen vehicles after stoning them in the wee hours today near Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary's Barighat, 50 km from this district headquarters, police said.
Half-a-dozen drivers were injured by the stone-pelting.
Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Sinha, other officers and a force from Konta Police Station rushed to the spot.
Unsocial elements suspected to be from Kawardha or here began the stoning at about 0130 hrs at the vehicles including one carrying devotees for holy dips -- coinciding with a lunar eclipse -- in the 'kund' at Amarkantak where the Narmada originated.
The devotees later proceeded to Amarkantak. News reached here this morning that vehicles were stoned and looting attempted near Barighat.
