India lagging behind with preparations for 2010 CWG

By Staff

Beijing, Aug 17 (UNI) While the Chinese are dazzling the world with their successful hosting of the Olympics, India is still lagging behind with the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

''We are behind schedule with the preparations for the Commonwealth Games. There is a lack of planning and work is moving at a very slow rate,'' an official with the Indian Olympic delegation said on conditions of anonymity.

''The preparations are being severely hampered by adhocism and lethargy,'' he added.

The official, however, hastened to add that the organisers of the CWG 2010 are drawing inspiration from the spectacular opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

''We are awestruck by the sheer magnitude of planning involved in the Olympics which is mind-boggling and we would draw inspiration from the best practices followed here. We are very impressed by what the Chinese has done,'' he added.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to be held in New Delhi between October 3 and 14.
