Day 9: Shankaracharya's fast-unto-death continues
Varanasi, Aug 17 (UNI) Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Narendranand Saraswati continued his fast-unto-death for the ninth consecutive day today to protest the withdrawl of land from the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
The condition of the Seer from Kashimerupeeth has, however, deteriorated further. The Shankaracharya was reportedly suffering from weakness and low blood pressure.
Hundreds of worried disciples of the Seer were visiting his ashram daily to enquire about his health.
District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Upadhyay and Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Prakash also visited the ashram to convince Shankaracharya to end his fast, but he refused to end the fast till the land was provided to the Shrine Board.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) national general secretary Dr Praveen Togadia is also arriving in his ashram, where he would hold a public meeting tomorrow.
