Jammu, Aug 17 (UNI) In view of an improvement in the law and order situation, authorities today lifted curfew for a day in three districts of Jammu region while it was relaxed for 11-hour in Kishtwar where situation was tensed following communal clashes, official sources here said.
''As the normal life has been paralysed by the agitation called by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), a day curfew was lifted in three districts including Jammu, Udhampur and Samba as it continued for the seventh consecutive day,'' official sources told UNI.
People, however, took out peaceful rallies at many places in various districts and burnt effigies of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, while no untoward incidents was reported.
Nine people have lost their lives so far in the ongoing agitation in Jammu, with maximum four in alleged police firing in Samba.
The Sangarsh Samiti, a conglomerate of 45 political, religious and social organisations, has extended the Jammu bandh till August 20. The Samiti, is demanding restoration of forest land to the SASB at Baltal and removal of Mr Vohra.
