BJP condemns BSP, SP for protecting SIMI
Lucknow, Aug 17 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today charged the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party and the opposition Samajwadi Party with sheltering the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
Uttar Pradesh BJP vice-president and spokesperson Hrideynarayan Dixit said ''the SP is favouring the SIMI from a long time...even now, the party supports it.'' Earlier, the SIMI spread its network under the SP's regime and was now doing the same under the BSP's rule, the BJP leader alleged.
The Mayawati-led BSP government was doing little to check the anti-national activities of SIMI, HuJI and Indian Mujahideen, Mr Dixit further.
On August 15, the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of UP has arrested SIMI activist Mufti Abdul Bashar Islahi from the state capital for his links in the Amhmedabad serial bomb blasts on July 26 last.
