Baripada, Aug 17 (UNI) Bandh has become a cheaper poltical weapon in tribal Mayurbhanj district of Orissa. Close on the heels of a BJP-sponsored 'Rairangpur bandh' on August 6, a Baripada-based a socio-cultural outfit has called a dawn-to-dusk Mayurbhanj bandh tomorrow.
The bandh call was given to protest the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) demand for carving out three districts from Orissa for the formation of Greater Jharkhand.
Bhanja Sena sponsored Mayurbhanj bandh on Monday will be the third Bandh within a span of one month.
Earlier on July 23, a BJD-BJP sponsored Mayurbhanj bandh was observed on the same issue.
The Mayurbhanj bandh on July 23 received unprecended support from all sections of people.
People voiced their strong protests against the ''absurd'' demand of the JMM supremo Shibu Soren, for a Greater Jharkhand with three Orissa districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
The fourth bandh that will come in quick succession is slated for August 20. The call for ''Bharat Bandh'' is given by a confederation of trade unions to protest against price rise and anti-labour policies of the UPA government.
Meanwhile, the All India OL-Chiki Students' Union staged a dharna at Rairangpur yesterday demanding for a Kherwal state comprising of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh and Keonjhar.
