Shifting Champions Trophy to Lanka not a solution

By Staff

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) In a possible worst case scenario, if the International Cricket Council (ICC) decides to shift the Champions Trophy to Sri Lanka from strief-torn Pakistan, the cricketers may hesitate to play even there.

According to the website of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, it has been advised ''to reconsider to travel to Sri Lanka''.

''We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Sri Lanka at this time because of the very high risk of politically motivated violence,'' the instruction said.

''Attacks in Colombo have become more frequent and have killed many civilians. Further attacks can happen at any time, anywhere in Sri Lanka. Australians could inadvertently become victims of violence directed at others,'' it added.

Sri Lanka is struggling to deal with the decades-old conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and there has been a renewed escalation in the fighting since January.
