Kiren Rijiju to attend Olympic closing ceremony at Beijing

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today nominated Kiren Rijiju, Member of Parliament, to attend the Olympic closing ceremony at Beijing on August 24.

A five-member Indian official delegation including Rijiju left early this morning for beijing on an 11-day trip.

The delegation will study the various steps taken by the Beijing Organisation Committee in organising the best-ever Olympic event for the benefit of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held here.

Kiren Rijiju is also a member of Commonwealth Organising Committee and vice-president of the Archery Federation of India.

The delegation will also visit various other Olympic venues besides attending the closing ceremony on August 24.

The opening ceremony on August 8 was attended by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Sports Minister M S Gill.

The second Indian delegation includes former Olympian and Asian Games gold medallist Jyotirmoyee Sikdar.
