CPI (M) seeks probe into girl's mysterious death
Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tamil Nadu secretary N Varadarajan today urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to order a CB-CID inquiry into the ''mysterious death'' of a girl student of Indira Gandhi College in Tiruchirapalli.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr Varadrajan said while college authorities claimed Prasanya of Cuddalore District had committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel room, her father said it was not the case.
Mr Arunachalam said when he entrusted his daughter to the hostel warden on August 6, she was in a good mood and there was no way she could have committed suicide.
There were no marks on her neck to suggest she had committed suicide by hanging, her father claimed.
As her father alleged the girl's undergarments were found torn and she had nail marks on the neck and chest areas and suspected she could have been subjected to sexual abuse, the government should order a CB-CID inquiry into the incident, Mr Varadarajan said.
People had no faith in the local police as they had not made any progress into the investigation when similar mysterious deaths were reported in the college in the past.
In the last three years, at least three girls have died in mysterious circumstances, Mr Varadarajan added.
