Baripada, Aug 16 (UNI) Raksha Bandhan, reaffirming the bond between brothers and sisters, was celebrated in Baripada Circle jail today with the ''Brahmakumaris'' making it sure that the less fortunate ones like the prisoners did not feel neglected.

All the 749 inmates were overwhelmed with joy after the Brahmakumaris visited the jail and tied the sacred strings on their wrists.

The Brahmakumaris were led by Centre-in-Charge B K Uma, B K Sagarika and B K Saraswati of the World Spiritual University, better known as ''Prajapita Brahma Kumari Iswariya Vishwa Vidyalaya''.

Senior Superintendent of the Baripada Circle Jail Sibadas Chand, said the gesture of the sisters ( Brahmakumaris ) had certainly lifted the spirits of the prisoners.

The sisters of the World Spiritual University also carried sweets prepared by them at the Ashram. They also ushered in moments of joy in the lives of little ones residing in the Gopabandhu Blashram and Sriram Chandra Deaf and Dumb school.

Meanwhile, Baripada town wore a festive look with a large number of temporary shops set up for selling colourful Rakhis (sacred strings).

The Rakhi-sellers made brisk business this year by luring younger people with attractive and expensive Rakhis.

It seems, that the younger generation felt that costlier the Rakhis, the more affectionate would be the bond.

The Parijans (members) of the Gayatri Parivar Trust, Mayurbhanj chapter also observed the Raksha Bandhan festival at the Gayatri Peetha at Baripada through prayers invoking the blessings of Goddess Gayatri.

They also tied the sacred 'dori' (Rakhi) on the wrists of their brothers and prayed for long and trouble free lives.
