Army smoothens traffic on JK highway

{image-j&k_16082008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Kathua (JK), Aug 16: Fruits and vegetable laden trucks stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway have kept on moving towards the Kashmir under army protection. Truck drivers said that traffic is moving smoothly on the main highways. Army personnel are deployed along the route ensuring safety and security. "We are very happy that the army is there. Because of this, the supply of items is returning back to normalcy," said Sukhwinder, a truck driver.

"The truck drivers who came from the route earlier told us that the protesters were breaking the glass panes and burning vehicles. So we stayed back and did not move. Now after the army was deployed all along the route, we started our journey," said Ravi, another truck driver. According to official sources, trucks carrying fruit, merchandise medicine, petroleum products, LPG cylinders and other essential commodities were being transported from both sides.

The State Government has been taking many steps to instill confidence among the truck drivers and the locals in an attempt to restore normalcy. Efforts were being made to bring back peace to the region.

Supplies to and from the state, especially the Kashmir valley were affected due to the protests and violence in Jammu region after the State Government revoked its order to transfer forestland to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
