Chennai, Aug 15 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today called on AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence and was believed to have discussed the present political situation in the state.
The meeting assumed significance as it come at a time when the political situation in the state was hotting up with Ms Jayalalithaa saying she was open to alliance with the PMK and Left parties.
Mr Vaiko's meeting also assumed significance as it come prior to the general council convened by the MDMK to appoint new office bearers and discuss the political situation.
A day after Ms Jayalalithaa said she was open to alliance with PMK and Left parties, Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi appealed to the CPI(M) and CPI not to break ties with the DMK-led DPA in the interest of the countryand to keep communal forces at bay.
Reacting to Ms Jayalalithaa's overtures, CPI leader D Raja said the party had serious differences of opinion with AIADMK on various issues and virtually ruled out renewing ties with the AIADMK.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) state unit leader N Varadrajan appealed to the DMK leader to desert the Congress and join the third front being floated by the Left parties.
