Two Andaman Police personel awarded President's Police medal
Port Blair, Aug 15 (UNI) Two Andaman and Nicobar Police personnel, Head Constable G.Shaji (Posthumously) and Dy SP T.Sebastin have been awarded Police Medals by the President of India, on the occasion of Independence Day, 2008.
Head Constable Shaji who sacrificed his life while performing his official duty on March 20 last has been awarded President's Police Medal for Gallantry posthumously.
He joined Andaman and Nicobar Police as Constable in 1992 and had been promoted as Head Constable in 2002.
While posted in Police Station Chatham, he tried to prevent theft of diesel in bulk quantity from M V Pilokunji at Chatham Jetty on the ill-fated day. He was attacked by the miscreants and pushed into the sea. In recognition of his exceptional bravery commitment, devotion to duty and surpeme sacrifice, he was awarded the medal posthumously.
Mr T.Sebastin, Dy SP presently posted at Sub-Divisional Police Office Campbell Bay has been awarded Police Medal for meritorious services.
He joined A&N Police as Sub-Inspector in 1978 and promoted as Dy.SP in 2007.
He held various posts inducing Station House Officer of P S Aberdeen, Central Crime Station, Circle Inspector Campbell Bay&Rangat, ADC Lt Governor, Inspector (Anti-Corruption) and Assistant Commandant/IRBn.
He made commendable contribution in community/Village policing in the Nicobar Group of Islands.
