New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) Majestic. That was the look the Red Fort sported today on the occasion of 62nd Independence Day.
The place was awash with marigold garlands and with three wings of the armed forces marching past the Lahori Gate of the fort, grandeur was only waiting to be added to its magnificence.
The Guard of Honour was held twice, first when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reached the venue in his 11-car cavalcade at 0720 hrs and the second after Dr Singh unfurled the tricolour.
The children, seated some distance away in front of the glass enclosure from where Prime Minister addressed the nation, were dressed in saffron, white and green colour dresses and caps, reflecting the joy and verve they had in heart as the country marked its yet another Independence Day with pomp and ceremony amid rendition of patriotic songs in melifluous voices.
Everyone had the feeling of awe and disbelief on witnessing the royalty and majesty of the fort on the occasion with gunmen atop its minarets to watch that not even a bird could flutter its wings on the premises.
