Chennai, Aug 15 (UNI) As an Independence Day gift, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced Special Time scale of pay for Noon-meal and a anganwadi workers and new pay-scales for the State Government employees as announced by the Centre based on Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.
Addressing the State after unfurling the national flag at the ramparts of Fort St George here on the occasion of Independence day, Mr Karunanidhi announced a special time scale of pay to those working in the noon-meal, a anganwadi and child-welfare centres.
The special scale of pay would benefit 2.20 lakh employees, who were presently on a consolidated pay and had been demanding pay scale salary and regularisation of service for more than two decades.
''This will benefit 2.20 people, who are engaged in a dedicated service in shaping the children, who are the future of India'', Mr Karunanidhi said adding the new pay scale would cost the Government, an annual expenditure of Rs 200 crore.
Mr Karunanidhi also announced for them a special pension scheme and seniority-linked increments to those, who had put in ten years and more of service.
As those, who was joined recently and those working for more than 25 years were drawing the same salary, the Government has decided to give seniority-based increments, he said.
The new pay scale, pension scheme and increments would come into effect from September 15, the birth anniversary of late Chief Minister C N Annadurai, he added.
The Chief Minsiter also announced that the State Government would implement and hike the salary of ten lakh State Government employees as decided by the Centre, based on the recommendations of the sixth pay commission. The Government would soon issue orders to this effect, he added.
