Salem (Tamil Nadu), August 15 : Students of Cenneys Institute of Hotel Management in Chennai attempted to create a record by making the world's longest pizza ahead of the country's Independence Day on Thursday.

The Hotel Management students began their record-breaking attempt early in the morning at 6 a.m. in the college ground.

Executive Director of Cenneys Institute of Hotel Management, Sengodan was present to encourage these young students.

It took eight and a half hours for the twenty odd students of the Hotel Management Institute to make 790 feet long pizza weighing 800 kilograms.

Speaking to the media Kathiravan, Prinicipal of Cenneys Institute of Hotel Management gave the complete details of the ingredients used in making of this pizza.

"To prepare this pizza we used 400 kilograms of refined flour, ten kilograms of margarine, five kilograms of yeasts, 200 kilograms of mixed vegetables consisting of onions, cabbages, capsicums and 300 kilograms of tomatoes and 35 kilograms of cheese," said Kathiravan.

Residents from across the city came to witness this unique record-breaking effort.

"I congratulated the students of the Cenneys Institute of Hotel Management for such a great effort. This pizza was prepared by about 20 students over a period of eight and a half hours and I witnessed this whole event," said Rajesh, a resident.

The previous record of world's longest pizza belongs to a private organization named Tiziano Shopping Centre Tenant's Union who made a Pizza measuring 611 feet and two inches on October 28, 2006 in Italy.

The saying that hard work and dedication overcomes the worst of hurdles best describes this case.
