Beijing, Aug 15 (UNI) India's Akhil Kumar stunned World Champion Sergey Vodopyanov in the second round of the 54kg (Bantam) category event to advance into the quarter finals of the Olympic Boxing competition here today.
In a nail-biting contest, Akhil and his Russian rival, with scores of 1-2, 3-4, 3-2, 2-1, were locked at 9-9 after four rounds but the judges finally declared the Indian as winner.
After two rounds Akhil was trailing 4-6 but the Indian made a remarkable come back to level the scores after four rounds.
In the quarterfinals, Akhil will now take on Veaceslav Gojan of Moldova who defeated Yu Gu of China in his pre-quartefinal match.
