Special status to Goa to attract industries needed: Sardinha
Panaji, Aug 14 (UNI) Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has sought conferring special status on the state on par with Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in a bid to attract industries in a big way with incentives.
''If required, the state legislative assembly or the Cabinet may adopt a resolution demanding the Centre in favour of such a special status,'' the GPCC President Francisco Sardinha told mediapersons here today.
He, however, did not concur with the demand of the BJP for banning sale of land to non-Goans in Goa, as it would have an adverse effect on the Goans residing in other states. There was no such law in the country, he added.
Mr Sardinha said the party was against construction of mega projects in rural areas, and the government has to take immediate steps to demolish the illegal structures as demanded by the villagers.
