Rains claim 18 lives in Karnataka, rivers cross danger marks
Bangalore, Aug 14 (UNI) The Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, flowing touching the danger mark continued to create havoc inundating scores of villages along the course in North Karnataka, while five rain related death were reported in Shimoga today.
According to an official in Revenue department, in the South, heavy rains which have been lashing several districts, abated today bringing down the flood levels to some extent.
The toll in rain-related deaths hase gone up to 18 in the state.
Four people, including three women, drowned in Tungabhadra river in the temple town of Mantralaya in Andhra Pradesh bordering Bellary district. The accident occurred when they went to have bath in the swollen river. They were identified as Lakshmi, Nagaratna (both from Gadag in Karnataka, Lakshminarayana from Mahboobnagar district in Andhra Pradesh and Lakshminarayana from Sholapur in Maharashtra.
In Belgaum district, the total inflow of water from Maharashtra in Krishna and its tributaries came down to 2.02 lakh cusecs.
