Promote sense of nationalism in youth: Jayaprakash
Hyderabad, Aug 14 (UNI) Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan today appealed to all political parties, media and the elite to instil sense of nationalism in the younger generation so that the nation can counter the grim challenges it is facing.
In an Independence Day message, he said though India was going through a turbulent phase because of recent economic downturn, grave energy situation, political instability and serious threats to national unity and integrity in Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern states, ''there is no room for despair or cynicism''.
''Despite its failings, democracy in India has struck roots in that we have always an elected government in authority, vindicating the faith of our founding fathers in the sagacity of the people,'' he added.
Stating that the task of nation building 61 years after the country became independent was incomplete he said, ''There are too many people, who have not benefitted from freedom or development.
Indianness is yet to have a prominent influence in our lives because of divisions, based on caste and religion, region and language.
Politics has become bitter, divisive and shortsighted with political parties being swayed by the single-point agenda of either clinging to office or bringing down those in office,'' he added.
