Private buses between Mangalore and Udupi goes off the road
Udupi, Aug 14 (UNI) The daily commuters between Mangalore and temple town Udupi and other interior areas faced hardship as private buses went off the road due to agitation by the drivers and the conductors of private express and moffusil buses demanding arrest of those involved in the assault of a driver and conductor at Ucchil on Aug 10.
The drivers and conductors of city buses also joined the strike leading to great inconvenience to the travelling public. However, the city service in Mangalore was normal.
The private maxi cab owners and rickshaw drivers were seen having field day. However, the District Administration had made arrangements by pressing several KSRTC buses between Mangalore and Kundapura.
Association President Vijay Kumar and Secretary Ramesh Shetty said that police should arrest six more culprits who are at large and whose names and addresses were furnished. Out of totally 20 alleged assaulters, the association knew the identities of 11. But the police have arrested only five persons so far.
The agitators are also demanding to book the assailants under section 307 which relates to attempt to murder.
Deputy Commissioner Hemalata assured that the police are trying to nab the hiding criminals.
