Melbourne, Aug 14 : Australian players' union boss Tim May will join International Cricket Council general manager cricket David Richardson and Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson to brief officials and players on his inspection this week of facilities in host cities Lahore and Karachi.

The three-man delegation will meet New Zealand officials today and also plans to visit England and South Africa, other countries that have expressed strong reservations about touring Pakistan.

May last night praised the Pakistan Cricket Board for its recent efforts, but said more needed to be done before all safety requirements were met.

But he said it was not too late for the PCB to tighten measures, opening the way for Australia to play in the tournament, the Herald Sun reported.

"One of the concerns of the taskforce is that we haven't been able to see enough of, let's say, the implementation of the security forces," May said.

"We need to speak to the players and governing bodies and see if they are in the same position too, if they want to see some more."

It's understood there are still security concerns with all facets of the tour, including travel to and from venues, at stadiums, and at hotels.

While May has his point of view, it's unlikely to be shared by Lawson, the former Australian fast bowler who now spends a lot of time in Pakistan.

Lawson has long been bemused by the reluctance of Australian players to compete in Pakistan.

He feels touring teams would be safe, but some Australian players fear the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq would make them targets for suicide bombers.

The outcome of the meeting will be relayed to ICC chairman David Morgan, ICC vice-president Sharad Pawar and ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat.
