Jabalpur, Aug 14 (UNI) As many as 217 live cartridges of the type used by the Army were seized this afternoon by police from various locations including a godown of a chemical factory belonging to local-resident industrialist Archana Bhatnagar who also heads the Mahakaushal Mahila Uddami Sangathan.
''The Crime Branch received a tip-off that some godown employees of the halide factory near Chautha Pul were attempting to sell cartridges. Five cops in mufti were sent there as 'customers','' Additional Superintendent of Police Atul Singh told mediapersons here.
Employees Santosh Patel, Sunil Hatale, Ashish Patel, Amar Kewat and Sushant Singh showed a sample of five cartridges and were promptly arrested. Ammunition was also seized from their homes.
''As many as 133 were light machine gun cartridges and the rest comprised pistol ammo. Prima facie they seem to be of foreign make.
All the employees and Bhatnagar were booked under the Arms Act and are being interrogated,'' the officer added.
