Kerala Govt to acquire land for IIST

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 14 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has said the government will acquire 40 acre of land for the setting up of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) here.

Talking to reporters after weekly Cabinet meeting here yesterday, he said the land will be acquired at Karippur Village in Nedumangad Taluk in the district.

Mr Achuthanandan said necessary orders were issued for giving reasonable price for the land as recommended by the State Land Purchase Committee The Chief Minister also said the government would provide 200 acre of land, belonging by the Animal Husbandry Department, free of cost for setting up the institute.

He also said the State Government would honour shooter Abhinav Bindra, who won the Olympic Gold Medal for the country, by awarding him a Gold Medal and Rs five lakh to his Coach Sunny Thomas.
